A delightful herbal luncheon served al fresco in a lovely pavilion alongside a pool with fountain , surround by numerous theme gardens was part of our IHA pre - conference tour of duty to Willow Oak Flower & Herb Farm . Enjoy a tour of this modest home farm owned and operate by Maria Price - Nowakowski and her husband Martin , her daughter Heather does flower design .
I ’ve known Maria for most 20 years when we met as members of the Potomac Unit of the Herb Society of America . Her herbaceous plant farm has change a batch over the years , with more garden , more outbuildings , a nature trail , a bio - diverse pond , a slew of ducks and goose ( they help to keep insect out of the garden ) , a gazebo and a garden marquee .
There are many large erstwhile Tree , native shrub and vines , along with all varieties of herbs and many beds of cutting flowers since Willow Oak is not only a plant baby’s room , it also is a full - service florist . In fact you’re able to stop by for their heyday of the week by bouquet or pledge to their weekly flower bucket program .
The family farm thinks unripened : “ Willow Oak is majestic to produce pesticide & herbicide free plants and bring down flowers . We raise our plants in an environmentally friendly , organic manner that lessens our footprint on the world . We strive to be a dark-green organisation because it is the proper matter to do . We also specialize in native plant that naturalize well in our sphere and assist to run our aboriginal wildlife . Our farm is not only a nursery but also a conserves for our ecosystem . ”

Besides the outdoor nursery plants and the shed full of every eccentric of soil amendment , fertiliser , etc . , the endowment barn is full of all sorts of delightful herb - relate dainty from dried musical arrangement and bundles of dried herbs , teas , love , books , essential oils , and a turgid raiment of accoutrements for fairy gardens . In the fridge there are sassy flower arrangement made from the homegrown herbs and flowers and a basket of fresh volaille and duck eggs for sales event .
