There are some good percentage point in there . Though we ’re in decent form down here in the south , eatable - wise , it would still take some serious searching to get all you require off godforsaken lands and not end up cash in one’s chips Donner . And creature sources of food – like cervid – are some of the good you’re able to get . Living on boiled thistle leaves wo n’t sustain you for long . That said … cervid , rabbits , squirrels , etc . , would likely vanish quickly in a full - on crisis state of affairs – hence , get laid edible insects and roots is a good idea .

observe : I would n’t eat that black and reddish - orange locust tree pictured by Gardens - in - the - backbone . They ’re toxic :

“ Adults of eastern lubber grasshoppers possess a motley of ability todefend themselves . Their bright color pattern is a warning topredators that the lubber contain toxic substances . Indeed , there areseveral records attribute the death of individual birds loser toexercise carefulness when choose fair game items . Also , minuscule mammals such as opossums have been known to purge violently after ingesting a lubber , and to persist ill for several hr . However , shrikes are report to take in and kill lubbers . ”(more on lubbers )

I conceive all other locust tree down here are edible , though . I ’ve deplete dotty grasshoppers … just never the lubbers . I do like the theme wasp eating idea . Hmm …
