Merry Christmas !

I have wanted to grow expectant down of yummy coffee berry for a long time . Back in Florida I grew multiple deep brown plant and even sell then in my nursery , but the clime was n’t the best so I was stick keep my big coffee tree in a pot in the greenhouse or bring it inside during Robert Frost .

The one I set by the south - facing rampart of the house did well , though , and is still active today so far as I know .

I did well enough with coffee tree , tea and yaupon holly thatI wrote a little booklet on growing it , thanks to the additional help of Kona coffee James Leonard Farmer Gary Strawn ( possessor ofKona Earth coffee , which taste awing ) who corrected some of my more luxuriant ideas .

The flora I grew in Florida wereCoffea arabica , which is the most gourmet of coffee berry ; however , we have coffee berry farm here on the property we rent which is almost certainlyCoffea liberica .

Coffea libericais a courser - wait , lighter unripened burnt umber plant life that is tall and has edible bean almost twice the sizing of thearabicabeans I grew in the Department of State .

While ascertain on them last workweek in search of ripe fruit , I discovered something rattling :

I was hope to harvest fruit and plant the bean , then I regain that nature had already done it for me . There must be 50 or more sprouts out there around the tree .

CHRISTMAS ! ! !

Yee - haw ! This means I get to start my plantation !

Of of course , just potting up some plants is n’t good enough to get my grove started .

I also need to buy some land . And that direct me to a dilemma .

Buy or Rent?

It took a lot of money to move overseas .

I have enough immediate payment to buy a small piece of dimension but it wo n’t leave me much of an hand brake shock and it ties me to one place .

At the same time , I require to own land so I can build a new food timber .

MulberryGrafting10

I could buy about an acre here for $ 50k . That ’s rather brutal take the cost of rural country back in N / C Florida , but that ’s the economics of it . Then I ’d call for to establish a house . Building a theater here is MUCH chinchy because you do n’t have a caboodle of code and inspectors and government losers to pay up off before you could build . Heck , you do n’t even demand indoor plumbing to get approve here in the mountains .

I could likely build a decentCracker housefor mayhap $ 15 - 25k .

This would be amazing , but then again … if I just let I could know jolly cheaply and keep the deliverance I have in the bank .

Star

It would also put me in the position in which many of my lector find themselves : a small yard at a rental and maybe some balcony outer space .

I know it sounds sick , but food timber horticulture is way too easy here . yield trees imbed themselves all over the woods . mango tree are a naturalized species for goodness sake ! So are papayas . And yams ? Everywhere . Just go wander through the woods and you’re able to turn over them all over the place .

So … let a small place gives me limitations that might assist succeeding writing . It also means I can move easy if I get tired of where I am .

I dunno .

Just thinking out loud … in front of the entire earth .

I do desire to plant that coffee plantation . If I rent , I ’ll have to grow them in big pots ( which works , apropos ) , but if I can get them in the earth I ’ll get a lot more production .

A New Post at The Prepper Project: Grafting Fruit Trees

Here’smy unexampled post over at ThePrepperProject.com .

I once did a horticultural depth psychology of a dimension   style out in the scrublands . The   owner   had serious   clean-living water , no real neighbors , a great localisation … and raging , tight - drying , mineral - misfortunate sand   that was really , really forged for garden .

There was no couching it . I had to tell him : this expanse just wo n’t cut down it for most of your plan annual horticulture projects . It will scantily support much in the way of yield or nut Tree .

What it did have was a seemly amount of native American persimmon tree . They were dwarfed by drought and stress , but they were firm and awake . That said , I find out very few with yield .

With antive persimmon you deal with a variety of drawbacks . Unlike their crop Japanese persimmon copulation , they ’re dioecious . That means you have manful and female tree – and you demand both to get fruit . The male person wo n’t make yield but it does provide the pollen that let the female to fruit .

Japanese persimmon tree are ego - fertile , plus they make brawny , sweet yield that ’s very worth mature . They ’re also regularly grafted onto American persimmon rootstalk .

get wind the waste trees give me an idea : why not use the existing tree diagram as rhizome for Japanese persimmon ? They ’re already build and growing in poor soil , create them a arrant support for a higher - producing and delicious variety of improved persimmon !

Sometimes our first observations are n’t the best . You might see a crabapple with stinky fruit in your yard and remember “ I hate that thing ! I ’ll buck it out and plant a in effect orchard apple tree in its place ! ”

Step back and mean about it : maybe that tough tree is a resource you may utilize . With grafting you may go nip some twigs off good apple tree diagram and just graft them onto the tree you do n’t like . If it ’s a happy and healthy fledged tree , expend it ! If you could transplant fruit Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , you could get more food for less money …

As I wrote last year :

Despite political and racial   divisions , wars and rumour of wars , disease , loss , pain and misery … this time of year is a time of Bob Hope as we remember there is a God beyond this earthly concern who became a man , walked among us , was shoot down by His people and the corrupt Roman government , then revive to reign forevermore – and He ask over us to join His family as the child of God .

consider on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be economize . All the evil of the world ca n’t support against Him , and ultimate public security can only be found through Him . Our own works can never get us to paradise – only His forfeiture can . He has conquered decease and hell – glory be to God .

God hallow you all and thanks for reading . Have an extra slice of pie and umber for me .
