SixOnSaturday

It is relentlessly wet here . I did get some weed done last weekend , but that was about it . This weekend it is the wintertime solstice , the tipping point on the agency to bound . I already see daffodils jab their noses through , along with some genus Allium and crocus . No signal of snowdrops yet . There ’s still a couplet of months of wintertime , of course of instruction , but I will be tapping my feet impatiently to sow seed once Christmas is out of the way .   While I await , it is meter for Six on Saturday . Six things , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything – a flower , a beastie , a plan , a job make out , a design , seeds , anything at all . Join in !

Here are my Six for this workweek .

1 – Overwintering tuber .   In here are the ‘ Ken Aslet ’ genus Tuber from last week ( left ) , plus two genus Colocasia rhizome ( right ) . They are just in damp sand , should be enough to keep them safe . The colocasia tuber had been left on the potting terrace and had been attacked by mould of some kind . I brushed them off , sprayed with some antifungal and interred them in the sand . I ’m hoping that will sort it out , but am not convinced .

2 – bragging pile o ’ manure . After an initial bloom of compost enthusiasm last year , where I made enough for all my mulching requirements , I have been a otiose puke heap - wise this yr . I may have overcompensated .   On this palette is over 2000 litres of molder , constituent horse manure . Over the vacation I design to give a nice thick mulch to all my borderline plus the veg beds . This is a luxuriousness way of introducing lots of adorable organic matter to the garden . It was a moment pricy , but not unconscionable and I will see the benefit of it in the bounce as everything gets turbocharged .

3 – digitalis seeds . I name seeds above , they are never far from my mind . I ’m looking fore to grow these . D. mertonensis , the hemangioma simplex foxglove , is a perennial cross between D. Lutea and D. Grandiflora . It will be glad in any aspect and is myopic compare to the two-year varieties , getting to perhaps 75 cm . The efflorescence are apretty pinkwith a dark inside . The seeds come true , despite being a hybrid . The D. purpurea ‘ shekels plum ’ are an improved version of ‘ pam ’s choice ’ ( for which , incidentally , I also have seed … ) . The flowers are apinker pink , more close packed and get to about 120 cm , 4′ tall .   I have got out of synch with my foxglove sowings , so I do n’t think I will have many flowers next year , probably I will have to look until 2021 for that .

4 – Achillea ‘ new vintage reddish blue ’ .   No evidence of violet , vintage or otherwise , just now . I bribe this plant in a slight panic at the province of this bit of border . It was clearly underwhelming . It might very well still be next year , we shall see . This milfoil is now putting out new ontogeny at the base , always an supporting signboard .

5 – Primrose ( or primula ? I can never say ) .   I only went to buy a Christmas Tree . What ? It happens . These were half price , decent plant life .   I do n’t much like primrose , I guess the leaves are ugly , but at this cost and in these color , I was happy to take them home . Or , some might say , I just could n’t serve myself . Now I just need to plant them …

6 – Sedum of some sorting . I do vaguely recall planting this geezerhood ago . It is some variety of mouse sedum , I retrieve . It minds its own line of work in the shade under the big hypericum shrub in the front garden .   It does n’t do much , to be honest , and every class I start weed it out before remembering what it is .

Will you get any gardening done this weekend ?   I will muck about a snatch , but in all likelihood not terribly productively . Do n’t forget to control back in as more links get added during the 24-hour interval .

I ’ll be back next weekend for the last # SixOnSaturday of the decade !
