Sharing the garden beauty
My name is Rebecca Last . I live in Ottawa , Canada , which is approximately USDA Zone 4 . It ’s the second hebdomad of March , and winter still has us firmly in her adhesive friction , so this is a great time to reflect on picture of gardens past . I ’ve been gardening my small suburban plot intensively since we moved here over 30 year ago . In 2005 , I joined the local Master Gardener group and now regularly give talks and publish articles on gardening — another great way to extend the gardening season through winter ! In May 2021 , I retired from the federal public service . Prior to that , my colleagues know me as the “ heyday lady . ” Each workweek during the farm season , I bring a freshbouquetof flush to decorate the front entree of our edifice .
An other spring bouquet — including daffodils(Narcissushybrid , Zones 3–8 ) , ostrich ferns(Matteuccia struthiopteris , Zones 3–7 ) , and Nanking cherry(Prunustomentosa , Zones 2–7 ) blossoms . ( The climbingPhilodendronbehind the bloom belongs to a security safety gadget who is a keen plantsman . )
Some tardy spill parallel organisation featuring amaranth(Amaranthus , annual),New England asters(Aster novae - angliae , Zones 3–8 ) , chrysanthemums(Chrysanthemumhybrid , hardiness varies by cultivar ) , and marigolds(Tagetes , one-year ) .

An early fall arrangement feature the rather aggressive but gloriousSolidagocanadensis(Zones 3–9 ) , amaranth , Rudbeckiatriloba(Zones 4–8),Physostegiavirginiana(Zones 3–9),Cheloneobliqua(Zones 3–9 ) , whitePhloxpaniculata(Zones 4–8),Dahlia‘Bodacious ’ ( Zones 8–10 or as a attendant medulla ) , and one sunflower(Helianthusannuus , yearly ) bloom .
Even after COVID hit and we all started working from home , I portion out exposure of musical arrangement , like this one from early June 2020 , which featuredIrisgermanica‘Clarence ’ ( Zones 3–9 ) , several stems of an unnamed previous - fashioned two - tone whiskered iris , burgundyGeranium phaeum(Zones 4–9 ) , andAlchemillamollis(Zones 3–8 ) foliage .
This midsummer bouquet sport three Oriental lilies(Liliumhybrid , Oriental mathematical group , Zones 4–9 ) , creeping bellflower(Campanularapunculoides , Zones 3–7),Papaversomniferum(annual ) seed heads , Thalictrumaquilegifolium(Zones 4–8 ) , and leaf from ostrich ferns andMacleaya cordata(Zones 2–9 ) .

A late summer posy picked from local roadside ditches includesSolidagocanadensisand purple loosestrife(Lythrumsalicaria , Zones 4–9 ) .
There ’s nothing much left alive in my garden by the ending of October , so I made these two Halloween bouquets with stilted materials .
Remembrance — many of the security guards at piece of work are veteran , so they appreciated the this arrangement , even though the flowers are all artificial .

Thanks to all those other great nurseryman whose gorgeous photos revolutionize us and keep us going during these farseeing , clean winter months !
