There ’s a lot !   I wo n’t list them here again , but suffice to say we are going to be busy next year . Some I lean lasttime , and I have later ordered a loadmore . I ’m not even include the vegetables yet , that will add up . To house all those ejaculate , and in a fit of jealousy over a beautiful set I ascertain on Twitter , I cobble together this seed drawer arrangement from scrap wood . It ’s a number bumpy and ready , wonky , one might be forgive for order .

I be after to lock the help of # 4 minor to dress it fittingly , partly to save me staining it but mostly to conceal its many manufacturing faults . We ’re cerebrate decoupage . At my age , that ’s not a word I envisage ever need to use in a virtual sense , or indeed at all ! A project for us in the vacation .

Sown , not yet bite out

Lupins – sigh . These looked big last calendar month . I took them off to the potting shed to cock up out but foolishly leave them in front of the shed heater for a min . They quickly knuckle under to heat exhaustion . I sheepishly put the pile back in the greenhouse and watered . There is no resurrection to account , deplorably , but one tardy seed has germinated . only survivor .   I hereby name him Chesney * .   Hardly deserving bothering taking it fore , but I will . I ’m a soft touch for a whoreson story .

The rest are a sorry appear bunch , I ’m afraid I ’ve neglected them . A few seedling have come along , I ’ve go forth them , waiting for more to look to make it worth a pricking - out session . Then they died . Not certain why – could be damping off , could be slugs . There are a few poking their head up that I should goad out . Manana .

I intend I saved some of the ejaculate of each so I can have another crack at these in the natural spring when conditions might be more amenable , and this gardener will be more focused on seeds and their needs .

Fair warning , there ’s more death and mayhem to come .

prick out , originate on

Since last prison term I have removed the top layer of compost from the althaea as it was going green . I ’ve topped up with grit rather in the hope that will prevent hepatic and the like from colonise .

I ’m still losing the curious hollyhock but I ’m telling myself that is merely the majuscule battle for spirit being act out in my greenhouse , the strengthening of the hollyhock gene pool . That , and I do n’t need 30 hollyhocks – if a few pour down their clogs now , that suit . Up to a point .

The poppies ( left ) look hunky-dory , one seems to be KIA . The nigella ( right ) also see perky enough .

Last fourth dimension around I observed that the calendula were looking particularly leggy . I last got around to re - potting them a bit deeper . I ’m not sure how they ’ll react , but they already reckon a bit happier in the big pots . A few had choke off before I get to them . Positively Darwinian assault these voice .

in brief after the last update I noticed that the halfway third or so of the Coleus tray had die , some kind of mould aggress from the feeling of it . I disposed of them and quickly cock up out 15 of the firm looking seedling . They depend fine for a while , but just in the last week or so they have begin to check out . Most are done , one or two might be ok but I suspect they ’ll all succumb . C’est la guerre .

I have been told the magic to directly sweet peas is to give them a easy waft once or twice a day , to mime a blue-blooded breeze . I just sweep the tops with my helping hand a few times . This toughens them up a flake , I gather .

The first stack is still minding its own business in the cold - figure , look a fleck more bedraggled than it ’s later - sown brethren . They have n’t been getting the hand - brushing treatment – perhaps that ’s why . I ’m relying on capital vulnerability to the outside world to toughen these guys up – as you’re able to see they were under an in of so of cockeyed snow , more or less gone by the time I took this photo Monday evening .

I need to put together some sort of sowing plan for the multitude of seeds . I do n’t think it will be reasonable to sow all of them so I ought to prioritize , and I think I need a hebdomad - by - week sowing plan so I know where I am .   I ’m not prepared to discuss whether it was sensible to order them all in the first place . Sha n’t .

That ’s the state of the nation for the seed I have going at the minute . I need to up my game before the sowing starts in earnest in late January , other February , things have been boggy .

I ’ll be back in the New Year with another scruffy update .
