New Year’s Resolutions for a Gardener.
.
. confuse out thePoinsettiastraight after Christmas . It wo n’t be beat but it will develop and grow and look frightful and uglier . Forget trying to make it nice and carmine for next year , it wo n’t . Anyway , you never really like it in the first property .
. call back to embed the hyacinth in the garden for next twelvemonth once they have finished blossoming .

. You have neither the prison term nor the facilities for grow 40 + packet of seeds .
. You must not buy anotherEdgeworthia chrysantha , on the rationale that you do n’t believe you ca n’t raise something until you have killed three of them . Losing two should be enough . specially at that price .
. The squirrel will always find a way to get at the wench ’ peanuts , however cunningly you try out to keep them safe for the birds . This think of that either the squirrel is cleverer than you are or he has more prison term on his hands .

. attempt to line up a way to stop the squirrel dig up your Crocus corm .
. attempt to get to the strawberries and the walnuts before the squirrel eat them all .
. sample to come up a way to get rid of the squirrel .

. seek to keep abreast when plant names are changed . For example , you have to call up to callSenocio greyii , Brachyglottis , Cimifugais nowActaeaand it is really unfair that just when you have finally learnt how to spellSchizostylisthey decide it is actuallyHesperantha .
. Protect less fearless plants from frost early so that you do n’t have to go out in the middle of the first frosty night in your grooming nightgown to throw table cloths over them .
. Stop worrying about dearest fungus .

. Stop putting your secateurs down wherever you fall out to be put to work and forget where you have provide them . test to remember that you have n’t got the time or the energy to look for for them ; especially when it call for emptying the wheelbarrow and fastidiously and painfully going through all the rose newspaper clipping .
. Remember - Pyrancanthais the most brutal industrial plant in the garden . Not only are the spines very awful , they will always call on sceptic when they are lodged in your fingerbreadth . Youmustremember to wear your gardening gloves at all time . You must not take one glove off and forget where you have left it .
. You are never going to need 15 horticulture gloves for the left over hand .

. Find a less disgusting way of killing lily beetles . Or wear boxing glove . ( See Resolution telephone number 10 )
. Do n’t go to nurseries during a summer drouth .
. If you do go to a baby’s room during a drouth do n’t buy any plants .
. If you do buy plant life during a drought , you have only yourself to blame . It ’s no good standing in the garden like Elijah in the desert praying for rain . ( I think it was Elijah ; the one who was fertilise by ravens . )
. You probably do n’t demand any more hellebore .
. Stop coveting your friend M’sDaphne bholua‘Jacqueline Postill ’ . One day when you are very , very old yours might look just as respectable .
Christmas is over and we as we approach a new gardening year it is a good time to look back on mistakes we have made in the garden this yr and to make some resolutions to be more efficient in the garden in 2014 . Here is my list . Please tell me your New Year ’s Resolutions .
