Stacking pots to create an unusual planting space

Today we ’re shoot the breeze with Mary Danzis , who is sharing a creative container display from her garden through the time of year .

By stacking a series of terra - cotta mass , Mary has made a grandiloquent garden dialect . Here , for the winter , it is embellish with cut branches from variousevergreens , pine retinal cone , Malus pumila , and the unusual greenfruitof the Osage River orange tree diagram ( Maclurapomifera , Zones 4–9 ) .

A dissimilar take on the winter display , again mix branches , fruit , and pine cones .

At the top of the pot tugboat , a tiny bird hangs out in a nest , andkumquatsbring color to the cut branches .

In the summertime , the pot tower is transformed with a living showing . Lamium ( Lamiummaculatum , Zones 4–8 ) bringssilvery foliageat the bottom , whileCalebrachoa(annual ) bloom in various coloring at the top .

The growing plants of the summer pot towboat altogether cover the social organisation under them , creating a tall vertical garden idiom .

In autumn , cosmetic gourd vine and berries mix with pansies ( Viola×wittrockiana , cool - season one-year ) in warm , fall - appropriate colors .
