From the producer: 9 March 2025
This week ’s champ is the first blossom ever on myPeggy Martin rose , a Katrina saving , thanks to Dr. William C. Welch . I planted it last twelvemonth , on a trellis at the sunniest part of Amelia ’s fencing .
6′ or so aside , it scram shady , but with blasts of tardy afternoon sunlight . The aquilege I engraft last twelvemonth under the mass laurel wreath were not seem too well-chosen . Two weekends ago , anticipate the rainwater , I moved them to the other side of the laurel wreath , where they get gentler sun . In their place , I ’m trying these sedges , Carex morrowii‘Variegata ’ . I really wish the way they clear things up . require more !
The white speckle , where larkspur seeded , will be filled before long with my babyPlumbago scandens . They ’re still tiny from last fall ’s planting , but they made it through the dry fall and our few freezes . Oh , and in front of that rock , I ’ve planted a Hymenocallis , so we ’ll see what come about .

I draw into expert Scott Thurmon at the nursery , and he really thought the fresh sedges looked like ‘ Frosty Curls ’ instead . Anyway , he approved .
Earlier in the week , I ’d called him to do a CTG segment in May on “ soft sculpture . ” We ’re still think of thought , so if there are soft carving you want to make love about it or suggest , let me get laid !
I also saw someCarex glaucaand pick up them for the front elbow room bed . Here they are in their little pots .

Since clearing out the nandinas , I did n’t need to imbed anything in front of the window , but it look a little bare . I ’ve consider neat stones to temper the initiation , but when I look these , I thought I ’d give them a attempt . I need to get a few more for behind the butterfly iris . Since the rainfall came , this bed has already exploded into action , too , and in a month , there will be barely a bare bit .
In the cat cove , the blue - eyed sens made it back again !
Along with the calylophus .

The starflowers ( Ipheon uniflorum ) keep come , along with oxalis .
At its entree , against the shed , the spiraea has it ’s week or two of glorification against the Lady Banks before I do some severe shaping . By the way , contain outLancashire Rose’spost on the history of this rose . Fascinating ! And we just glue the cat statue to a rock and roll , to be place in the proper spot when I can move a spiderwort .
Here ’s a view to the yard with the milk can I rescue from Scooter ’s mechanic ’s recycling megabucks .

I desire to renovate the computed axial tomography cove , as I told you before , but I have n’t had a brilliant idea yet .
In the meantime , I but had to deal with the shed “ entrance . ” I put down these leftover years ago , as a temporary entree . . .well , you know how that narrative goes .
It had moved up the “ vexation ” priority chain , so we hit the rock place and loaded Scooter with Mexican patio flagstones . This is a monitor to check on price , since they were much more costly than native 1 . I honestly did n’t realize it would be so much more . But once you ’ve got your car loaded , you do n’t take them out !

Even before I finished , the cats discovered their fresh patio . The magnanimous gap on Sam ’s left is a vast white basswood root .
With decomposed granite , I smooth out a bed , placed the Stone on top , and strike them around until I had the right conniption . Then I filled the gaps and cover the root with the granite . I sweep it in , sprinkle it , and squinched it in with my finger . The next Clarence Shepard Day Jr. , I repeated the modus operandi . As it settles in , I ’ll give it another VD of granite for a nice heavy aerofoil . I ’d considered a more elegant flagstone display , but the square line will make it well-situated to mow past .
In the den bottom , can you believe this ? ! ‘ Patrick ’ abutilon , Sweetness narcissus , Tinka tulip , white oxalis and Valentine rise all at once . To the left field are Spuria Iris Orientalis , and Buff Beauty rise , not yet in rosiness . Butchartit ’s not , but what the heck .

To the right are aquilegia in back of ‘ Country Girl ’ mums and asters . Daylilies between them .
Well , so-and-so , I signify to tell you about this to begin with , but here ’s a big result this weekend . This east Austin fair gets proficient every year with all sort of information , let in hands - on demonstration on edible landscape gardening for citizenry and wildlife .
