I ’m obnoxiously schmalzy about my container plants . For plants in the ground , I have a sexual love ‘ em and leave ‘ em mentality . Well , not quite , but I suffer slightly less anxiety over leaving them behind in a move . So when I relocated from California to Connecticut to connect the editorial stave atFine Gardeninglast calendar month , my potted plant were definitely coming along for the ride . How did I move them from glide to seashore ? In a U - Haul safely nest in various sized tubs and bin that provided protection and served as a catch basin for water . Here ’s what I did :
Preparation
I entrust sufficient space for my flora at the back of the motortruck for easy accessibility . Then I place each container of plants ( or a few together ) in turgid charge plate tub and used bubble wrap between the crapper and the plastic moving tubs to keep them in place . I loaded the plant into the truck keep on them close together to reduce movement and wed them in firmly with forget me drug . As a final touch , I placed an empty watering can by the hand truck doorway so I could water on the route .
In Route
Each time I stopped to re - fuel , I opened the hand truck doorway to allow air circulation and to checker on the plant experimental condition . I water as needed by filling my watering can up at gas Stations of the Cross that furnish a public water system source .
New Home
I unload my plants in a cool shaded domain at our young family . The move slightly punctuate my plants , so I leave them ( and myself ) some time to rebound .
All my container plants and I have now successfully acclimated to our new home in Connecticut .
