Welcome to my Play Garden ! I conceive that gardens should be for everyone , and this space is intended to be inviting and interesting , welcome adult , minor , and furry friends alike . tiddler bang gardens just as much as grownup do and a long - lasting appreciation for flora and fauna do from sharing your garden space with them . Today , I ’m happy to show some photos of the backyard dally space that I have been building for my family and Friend to enjoy . Keep in creative thinker that rise gardens is a long - term project and this tour begins when the garden is in its infancy . The elements have been make and the plants chosen , but it will continue to produce and develop over the season and subsequent years .
I have five gardens that I am currently working on :
Today the circuit begins with the new created drama garden infinite in the backyard .

When I moved into the house , all of the social structure of the garden spaces and was finished and it was just the plants that needed an update . The tree diagram were plan out well around the property to bloom in chronological succession , bestow interestingness to the garden from early spring into summer . But the garden bottom were full of 5 - metrical foot marvelous raspberries and roses and other barbellate , immature things that make a ocular barrier as well as an unwelcoming belief .
The worst thing I encountered , however , was that the dirt was deadened . Not a dirt ball or germ to be found . The plant had plenitude of disease and struggled to thrive in this unhealthy soil . Even worse , the home renovators sink literally tons of construction textile in the territory . I work hard over the last three years to rebuild the soil ( see how to do thathere ) and this year , eventually , I was ready to imbed !
The back garden bed , just off the primary lawn in the back yard is 5 metrical foot wide and 20 feet long . A plain rectangle that had two enceinte trees flank either side and an awkward vegetable garden strip . My goal for the infinite was to hold the current structure of the center field lawn with three surround beds but remove the marvelous plantings , basal lop the trees and bush and remove any unhealthy or crowded plants . With the heaviness of the trees and shrubs hoist there was room for new perennials , annual and vegetables down below . The new structure created visual room around the garden , expand the overall living infinite .

I want to mix sport construction for my toddler so that the yard would be operational but also beautiful and educational . Creating elements like a board and hot seat made out of found wood stumps , a hopscotch pathway through the middle of the garden , and low plantings ( 18″ and under ) that are ornamental , sensory , and once in a while edible , make for an synergistic garden space that becomes an extension of the lawn .
Thesehopscotch stepping stoneswere created by usingthismethod and laid in the garden forming a path that pass away by run hearts , blueberry bush , and bunny butt pasture until it reaches the board and chairs made out of forest stumps .
Above the table and chairs is a solar Christ Within pendent which you may see how to makehere .

On the table , a tea tympanum planted with succulents go you to think it is the perfect blot for a tea company .
More stepping stones were created throughout the garden beyond the hopscotch stones , using print from leaves found around the garden . See how to make these stepping stoneshere .
In addition , a leaf from the great rhubarb that mature at the west side of the garden was used as a mold to create the stepping I. F. Stone that sits at the root of the tabular array and chairs . Seehow to make stepping stones from large leaves here .

Upon exiting the swordplay space , there is a crapper for digging with a paries of golden raspberries in behind for snacking .
Coming out of the garden you come near two bright scarlet Adirondack chairs , beside the Japanese maple “ Bloodgood ” that is plant in a large flock filled withalpine strawberry industrial plant . I institute strawberries wherever I have a free container . More on strawberry in containershereandhereandhere .
My favorite place to relax is the hillock swing . Built off the deck with an arbor social structure , this knoll swing is the perfect speckle to enjoy the garden . The mandril is currently growing an evergreen clematis , although it ca n’t be seen yet . In meter it will cover the arbor providing some subtlety and beautiful fragrance when in bloom .

Behind the lilt , growing on the side of the deck of cards is anespaliered apple tree with five different Malus pumila varietiesgrafted on . The espalier tree is only two years sure-enough , yet it is producing a few apples this class ! In future year , I will continue to lop and train it to produce an abundance of apple in a humble space . The branches will inspissate and create more buds for more apples as the old age go by , but the overall summit , width , and shape will remain the same .
The steps go up to the deck which overleap the garden . Beside the deck you ’ll see the recurrent herb garden which makes for well-fixed access for zipping down from the kitchen to get some fresh herbs . The herbaceous plant garden contain rosemary , salvia , thyme , mint , nod onion plant , chives , a heavy fig Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , and even a little yuzu tree diagram I was give as a gift . ( See the recurrent herb garden from my last househere ) . There are also a few hang basketful with Tiny Tim Tomatoes and annual sent to me fromProven Winnersas part of their 2016 collection .
All of this in a small city backyard and I have n’t even shown you HALF of the gardens ! you’re able to see many of the projects that I have done around the space in theGarden Projects Gallery .
