When I lived in New England , we made autumn excursion to the orange and red hills of Vermont and New Hampshire . On the west coast , we get lose in corn labyrinth . Cooler temperatures mean that it ’s no longer summer , but the season still beckons us outside with field of fiery - color copiousness . And in Japan , October is no unlike . Just outside Tokyo is a peak park that bloom bright in fall . The hills are covered withKochia scoparia(syn . Bassia scoparia ) , a Eurasiatic native one-year shrub whose vernacular figure are , appropriately , Mexican firebrush , ball of fire , or burningbush . Kochialeaves and stanch change state from dark-green to bright bolshy in October .

blossom festival and flower parkland are not rare in Japan , where cherry red peak garden blooming in April & May , and chrysanthemums ( kiku ) are lionise in October & November . Not so at Hitachi Seaside Park , a democratic flower park just outside Tokyo , whereKochiabushes are currently displaying their good fall vividness . The bush is famous for its autumn reds , which deepen as the plant ’s chlorophyl fades for the time of year . They are bright red through end of October , when the green close . The park cover 153 hectacres , and is tightlipped to the Pacific slide . visitor can walk the park through its hills , with the nearby sea follow in and out of view .

The flowers in Hitachi Park vary with the season : daffodils and tulip in the spring , blueNemophilaand rosebush in the summertime . In early autumn , the world begin to flower — a herald toKochia . By October , the landscape is sate with some 30,000 redKochiabushes , and a couple million pinkish and white cosmos prime .

Kochia’svalue is n’t set to its autumn colors . While its Dubyuh form is known as burningbush , its seeds are called " field caviar . " They are educate as a food garnish calledtonburi , and considered a finesse in Japan ’s Akita prefecture .
