Shrubs, statues, irises, and more
Today we ’re in North Carolina visiting with Bob and Linda Hatcher , partake in scenes of their beautiful , naturalistic garden .
What we name to as “ The Circle ” is a Oliver Stone patio with an old metal Vermont - type maple syrup cooker we use as a firepit . Many hours have been drop here and many marshmallow consumed .
seem through the hollyhedgeto the backyard , ahibiscusis visible in the modest pot .

As we see at ourpergolabetween the house and the backyard , we ’re think it should be named thehostapergola .
The correct - hand side of the backyard includes repeating locoweed . The trick here was acquire them degree .
A bird statue pose with the purple fleur-de-lis .

We found this short statue in Charleston , South Carolina . Here it is indorse up by hydrangea(we think this isHydrangea macrophylla‘Bloomstruck ’ , Zones 5–9),clematis , and gargantuan garlic .
Rusting galvanized geese
The sleeping girl in the ferns(Dryopteriserythrosora‘Brilliance ’ , Zones 5–9 )

The walk off the front porch is flanked by ‘ Annabelle ’ hydrangeas(Hydrangea arborescens‘Annabelle ’ , Zones 3–9 ) , which have n’t flop yet . That might be due to the fact that we cut them to the background when they obtain to about 12 inches tall this bounce . Also , on the right is ‘ Carissa ’ holly(Ilexcornuta‘Carissa ’ , Zones 7–9 ) hedging . On the other side isAmsoniahubrichtii(Zones 5–8 ) , a howling plant withfour - season pursuit . It ego - seeds here , but just the correct amount .
Just a little farther along the same way of life are mophead hydrangeas(Hydrangea macrophylla , Zones 5–9 ) , which look like this every yr even though we still are never sure how to prune them !
