This tour of my garden is seven years after I jump my garden from scratch . In that time I have add lots of flowering perennial , yield Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , bush , raise beds for vegetables , privacy screens , and garden art .

Home Garden Tour

I commence every day by looking out the back window and taking a picture of my garden .

If you have been interpret my blog for a while you know I do not view gardening as a project with a beginning and an end , but a lifelong experience to — as corny as it sound — workplace , make for , and grow .

My garden has super - arenaceous ground . This have in mind some works distribute like complete maniacs — daisies , eve primrose , bee balm ( Monarda)—and , others , quite mysteriously , fly without a trace . Poof .

My Empire of Dirt

I took these exposure and the video after it rain . It ’s early for many of the bloom , which wo n’t burst undefendable for a couple of weeks yet , but there ’s something about the green - fulness of this stage that I get laid . Perhaps because it stop so much expectancy , yet it ’s still fairly calm .

I have several project afoot , as you ’ll see . I do n’t really like to leave thing half done ( perhaps to a geological fault ) , but I make exclusion when it ’s worth waitress for liberal materials to find me .

The first exposure ( below ) shows the persuasion from the screened terrace .

neat readers may notice the newfangled rotary bricks and brickwork along the edge of the garden bed .

I found these bricks buried in other parts of the yard ( another symptom of sandlike ground — thing step by step sink ! ) and think they would look nifty by the terrace .

I generate the blanched birdhouse at a thou cut-rate sale . This year I used remnant shoe bags from another project you will see ( below ) to put flowers on the roof .

The birdhouse is sitting on the legs of an old kitchen legal profession stool . It works nicely on the swivel stand . Wrens nest in it each spring .

The blue ladder is the same paint color as the shed threshold . One of my daughter ’s opt it and it has become the composition people of color for the garden .

The pool has attracted a hatful of frogs and toads . Plus I have a set of goldfish . Good to know the frog universe will be growing . Ahem .

This next photo showsthe pond I installed last yr .

I did not give it a springiness clean - up because the frogs were matt-up early on and I did n’t want to touch the 100,000 tadpoles .

Then , after getting the weewee absolved ( usingthe Empress of Dirt pond batting method acting ) , I unexpectedly dropped a blossom plantation owner into the piss , spilling the soil . Oy !

Now , when it rains , the water gets murky until the land settles again . Silly , Empress . But , the fish and salientian are happy and healthy , so all is well .

The floating plantation owner ( destitute instructions here)in the pool offer shade and concealment spots for the fish .

Thedelphiniums(below ) really like this spot so that is where they will stay . It took a few tries as they did not wish the sandy soil .

Now that it ’s load with compost ( and holds more moisture ) , they are much happier .

My mini greenhouse(made from roadside free windows a few years ago ) got a green roof this yearusing shoe bag to hold flowering annuals .

Next , we are by the black walnut Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree , which is squirrel and chipmunk central .

In the back quoin I have my asparagus spot and a lot of dope .

It ’s also my garden nursery sphere where I stash plants until I have a place for them in the main garden .

The planting area in front of the shed is a study in progression . I am not doting of the hostas .

On the other side of the shed ( below ) is the site of our former swimming pocket billiards .

The year after post this I turn this orbit into a yard waste sphere include myan old branch privacy hedge .

We always have huge number of bees ( many species ) . This twelvemonth I ’m also seeing a good number of butterflies .

Five years ago , it was Monarch - mania . Then the dice - offs take place , and I ’d see   just a few each week .

So far , this year looks promising for honorable numbers pool . No photos . Just a note so I ’ll remember this .

I love things gathered in groups of three . These pots are previous sap bucket . I spray painted three and get three of them rust :

It ’s been great for better privacy , atmospheric condition protection for the plants , and more garden prowess display chance .

The Natalie Wood screen in the next photo was plant at the side of the route . I eventually moved it from this location and built a different logic gate . It did n’t quite do what I hop-skip .

More delphinium beaut :

There is an espaliered apple tree in the raise bed ( below ) .

I set up template wire , though I ’m undetermined about how much I need to train or prune it . I do n’t like things to calculate too tamed , as you have probably surmised .

Other food sources in the garden admit several dwarf apple , a cherry tree , currant , Bronx cheer , blueberries , strawberries , and veggie crops in the other raise beds .

I raise strawberries incontainers around the gardenbut it has become plain that the chipmunk love them as much as I do .

The new programme is to start them out of doors and then bear on grow them in the screened patio . The chipmunks do retrieve their way in there sometimes but it ’s a slower theft system of rules .

I ’ve got the seed feeder for the goldfinches ( and admirer ) , and the hummingbird feeder . I do bask sit around on the porch swing , watching the birds go about their business sector .
