My married woman read yesterday ’s post on seed swindler and said I fathom too coarse towards readers who may have gotten some of these phoney seeds .
If I made you feel forged , I rationalize . That was not my intent . My irritation is n’t directed at the good people who have been scammed , it ’s take at the scammers taking advantage of gardeners . Gardeners are usually some of the nicest , most seemly people on the planet . We do n’t immediately assume that people want to take advantage of us . We just require to produce smashing plants and drop clip outdoors and part green goods and seeds with friends – why would anyone seek to rip us off ?
I was once at a large plant show , volunteer as a Master Gardener . As I helped people on the tramcar , a vendor conjoin us and was scanning the parking passel as if search for something .
“ What is it ? ” I ask .
“ Someone took our cart , ” he say , “ I ’m hoping to determine it again . ”
“ Someone stole it ? ” I said . “ I would recall the nurseryman chaffer a show like this would n’t be the character . ”
“ No , I ’m sure it was an accident , ” he said , “ they probably mean it was provided for convenience , and not our personal belongings . My stakes is they took it to transport plant to their cable car . We never have anything really stolen . ”
I draw into the man a short time later and he was ripe . Someone had borrowed the pushcart – and had make for it back . He told me gardener were some of the good people to shape with and I agree .
And in case you think I think you ’re dumb for being rip off , I do n’t . I exaggerate for effect , most sure , but it ’s the chiseller I desire to lambaste , not the scammed . Except for the people that beam zillions to Nigerians . That really is silent .
I ’ve been rip off before myself . I bought a magnanimous variety of seed from a “ rare seed ” internet site and had almost none of them germinate . What a waste ! Another time I “ saved ” money by buying bare root trees from Willis Orchards . Most of them died and the ones that lived were rottenly weak . I wo n’t bribe from them again . The same goes for TyTy Georgia .
That form of thing happen and we move on . I ’m glad for others to learn from my mistakes . I ’ve made plenty .
