In New England , finding camellias can be challenging . If you want plants to try , you must prescribe them from one of the few national glasshouse who grow them ( Nuccio ’s Nurseryin Pasadena , perhaps the finest , andCamellia woodland Nurseryin North Carolina come to mind ) . There was a time when a camelia corsage was commonplace , even I remember in the 1970 ’s sure-enough wooded glasshouse in my domicile townspeople of Worcester , MA with marvellous camellia trees planted in the ground , that would provide flowers for the few older woman who would call to quest them . Today , they are all lose , and if you are curious to see these sensational flowers , perhaps the only place to see them would be at a camellia expo , such as this one , or , if you visit a private collection .

If you have an unheated porch that persist constantly above freeze , or if you have a cold ( 35 - 40º greenhouse ) then you will have achiever . you could taste them in an un het garage with a windowpane , or a cold bedchamber that you do n’t practice . I have to honest , I ’ve resisted entering or even take care the camellia show at Tower Hill each yr , only because I felt ( incorrectly ) that it might be underwhelming , my own prejudice as I have my own collection of camelia in the greenhouse here , and felt that there would be so few introduction that it would not be deserving my time to get at to go in . Boy , was I incorrect . I was surprised ( i.e. appalled ) at how crowded the show was , ( clearly – lot of people want to visit a botanical garden in the middle of winter- duh ! ) , and , I was extremely impressed with the turn of entries . I prognosticate that the camelia will be the next peony , for I never seen so much interest from hoi polloi about any flower show works or flower . Many hoi polloi were buy plants , and even more were look at picture .
